What are homoeopathic remedies?
Homeopathic medicines - known as dilutions - are mostly derived from natural substances. They are prepared by specialist pharmacies.
Homoeopathy uses minute doses of substances to activate the self-healing potential of the body.
The remedies are produced by diluting the ingredient in an alcohol and water solution, and then shaking it vigorously (known as 'succussion'). A common ratio in this country is to take one part of the ingredient, and combine it with 99 parts of the solution. This procedure may be repeated many times, each time producing a concentration 'one-hundredth' that of the one before. The resulting liquid is then usually soaked onto tablets. The diluted remedies are described as being 'potentised'. The more a substance is diluted, the higher its potency.
Remedies are dispensed as pilules or as liquid medication. The successive dilutions remove any potential toxic or harmful effects. Remedies are free from side effects and are neither addictive nor toxic.
It is comforting to know that the remedies have been tested on willing human volunteers and are not tested on animals.
The remedies work so gently that homoeopathy is a safe supportive treatment for everyone. It can be used during pregnancy, for breastfeeding mothers, babies, and the elderly.
Homeopathy works on the law of similars (like cures like). If the prescribed remedy accurately matches the individuals disorder/disease/symptoms, it then stimulates the body’s self healing process and improvement in their health is effected.
Homeopathy is always based on the individual’s expression and not on named diseases. Therefore it is likely that if two people suffered the same disease eg headaches, each person would be prescribed a different remedy – reflecting their mental emotional and physical expression. It is with this unique prescription and improvement in health is effected.
Homeopathy is gentle and the remedies influence the body's 'energy', rather than its chemical balance, so there is no chemical trace to accumulate in the body's tissues, and no chemically-induced side-effects.
